LEIGH RU beat derby rivals Tyldesley to win the Sean Grainey Memorial Cup.
The game, watched by Sean's parents, finished at 17-7 with both sides producing entertaining rugby.
Chris Lee followed Ross Bullough's hoisted kick to make a clean catch and shoot in between the sticks for the first score, adding the conversion himself.
But Tyldesley's pack bulldozed over for a try to keep the game tight.
Then Lee added a penalty for a 10-7 interval lead.
Tyldesley defended well against the wind in the second period. But they could do little when Matthew Brown cut through in a fine solo effort for a try which Lee goaled.
Tyldesley 2nds proved too strong for Leigh, winning 27-17. A penalty try and pushover try created the platform for the backs to score two fine TDs.
Fraser McIntosh went 50 yards for his while Dave Peet created a half-chance to send ace speedster Ian Worsfold 70 yards under the posts, Peet converting in the final seconds.
Leigh Tofts beat Chorley Vets 3-0, a penalty from Porteous deciding it. Winger Finn, returning from injury, won the MoM with some telling tackles, and coach Miller found his boots in time to play his part in the victory.
Leigh Minis & Juniors: U12s won 56-0 at Blackburn (Thomas Andrews, Joe Butler, Roy Grundy, David Ashurst, Matt Ashbrook, Patrick Walton 3); U9s beat Blackburn 50-0 (Andrews 4, Marrow - on his debut - 3, Harrison, Taylor, Woods); U8s beat Blackburn 25-20 and 25-10 (Martyn Hall 4, Alan Whittle 2, Christopher Boyle 2, Dale Parkinson).
