SWIMMERS and councillors have been assured there is no public risk from asbestos at Padiham Pool.
A report to the recreation and leisure services committee said Padiham pool and health studios would need to be closed for seven days because asbestos needed to be removed. Councillors were told there was no problem with the asbestos itself but that some essential valves and pipe maintenance work needed to be done.
Judith Forshaw, head of community and recreation services, told the committee: "There is asbestos in the pipe lining but it is encapsulated.''
Other closures at leisure centres have been agreed.
Gannow pool and fitness centre, Burnley, will close for four days in July for maintenance to the steam boiler.
The Thompson Centre, Burnley, will be closed on Good Friday, April 10, open on Easter Saturday and Sunday and closed on Easter Monday and May Day holiday, May 4.
It will stay open on Spring Bank holiday, May 25, August bank Holiday, August 31, and during the July and September holidays but close from December 24-28 and on December 31 and January 1.
