GIANT car boot sales are being planned for Blackburn market rooftop car park.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is considering introducing the Sunday sales as a way of raising much needed cash.
Moves to get the car boot sales off the ground are still at an early stage but the town hall has already put in an application for planning permission.
Letters have also been sent to the market traders association and local charities will be asked for their views.
A spokesman for the town hall said: "We are asking for contractors with experience in running these sort of sales to contact us as soon as possible.
"We are still looking at the viability of having weekly car boot sales at the market but things are still at an early stage."
The spokesman added: "Nothing has been decided as yet and the final decision will be made by the regeneration committee.
"We will be talking to people who organise charity events to ask for their views before anything is decided."
The market traders association has been informed of the move and are unlikely to oppose the sales.
Chairman Roy Scott said: "We have been told that only used articles will be on offer at these car boot sales.
"The only goods sold on the market are quality items and it does not seem likely car boot sales would affect our trade.
"Things are still at an early stage and we have just received a letter from the council informing us of the move."
