TWO Bury detectives, who helped recover £110,000 of stolen property and arrested nearly 200 people in six months, have been awarded the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester's Citation of Merit.
Detective Constables Stephen Haslam, 35, who joined the police force in 1989, and Michael Kennedy, 46, who has given 23 years service at GMP, were honoured for their conscientious, professional and enthusiastic approach to their work at a special presentation in Bury on Tuesday.
Between August 1996 and February 1997, the officers arrested 181 people for crime-related offences as diverse as rape, robbery, burglary, wounding and theft. A total of 27 files of evidence were submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service as a result of their work.
The CID officers, who both live in Bury, were presented with their citations by Greater Manchester's Chief Constable David Wilmot.
