ST HELENS Council has confirmed that the headteacher of a local primary school has been suspended after his pupils 'underachieved' in national assessment tests.
A spokesman for St Helens Council said: "Following disappointing pupil attainment levels in last year's public exams the governors of Broad Oak Primary School in Parr requested the Director of Community Education and Leisure Services to undertake a review of the school.
"The review has highlighted a number of issues and having considered this, a formal investigation has been initiated under the disciplinary procedure.
"The authority can confirm that the headteacher has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. But it would be inappropriate to make any further comment until the process is concluded."
