Burnley Reserves 1 Sheffield United Reserves 3
BURNLEY's hopes of a promotion place in the Pontin's League took a sharp dent last night at the hands of a strong Sheffield United outfit at Turf Moor.
Sheffield took the game to a young Clarets line-up right from the start and it was not surprise when they took the lead in the 16th minute. A Dalian Atkinson effort beat Woods from the edge of the area after some fine play on the left by Marcello Cipriano. Cipriano added the Blades' second on the half hour mark, latching on to an excellent through ball from Katchouro before calmly slotting past Woods.
Katchouro added a third for the Yorkshiremen from the penalty spot after Vinnicombe was adjudged to have brought down Cipriano in the area.
Young striker David Henry pulled a goal back for the Clarets minutes before the break heading home a looping header from a Williams right wing cross which left Johnson stranded.
The Clarets tried in vain in the second period to unlock the Blades defence with Carr-Lawton, Vinnicombe and triallist Tony Whealing from Blackburn Rovers all testing Johnson in the Blades goal.
Team: Woods, Williams, Whealing, West, Overson, Vinnicombe, Graham, Ford, Carr-Lawton, Henry, C Smith (Heywood).
