SKILLSGROUP plc, which last year sold Rossendale computer company P and P, has reported a big profits leap.

Skillsgroup sold P and P UK, based on the Carr Industrial Estate, to GE Capital IT Solutions for £11.5 million, with an agreement to take on a further £15 million of debt.

P and P employs around 500 at the Haslingden site but Skillsgroup retains its ownership of neighbouring computer company Acuma, which employs around 200.

Acuma provides computer solutions, from consultancy to network management skills, for businesses.

Overall, Skillsgroup reported operating profits up by 18 per cent to £11 million on turnover of £171 million.

Chairman Philip Livesey said the company was focusing on 'higher margin' or more profitable, skills-based services.

"This trend is expected to continue in line with increasing market demand for information technology skills and expertise," he said.

"The board is confident that the new structure and focus enables the group to target positive cash flow and strong earnings per share growth."
