THE search is on for two teenagers from the Whalley area to take part in the "trip of a lifetime."
Whalley's two masonic groups, the Abbey and Cloisters Lodges, want to sponsor two community-minded youngsters on a sailing expedition in July. They will send "deserving" 16 or 17-year-olds from Whalley or surrounding villages on the week-long expedition as a reward for good deeds.
The venture is part of the new masonic spirit of openness and spokesman Jack Counsell, a member of the Abbey Lodge and a sailing enthusiast, said it would be a never-to-be-forgotten trip.
The 76-foot, two-mast Greater Manchester Challenge will leave Preston and sail the Irish Seas before returning to Liverpool.
The expedition will be run by the Ocean Youth Club organisation, with Mr Counsell acting as second mate.
"We are looking for two deserving teenagers from the Whalley area who have contributed to the community.
"They will learn team-working and sailing skills, and much more.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the right youngsters," he said.
The two need to be aged 16 to 17, able to swim 50 feet in light clothing and free from any contact with infectious disease, although no knowledge of sailing is necessary.
They will have the opportunity to spend a couple of days on the 'tall boat' the week before setting sail when it docks into Preston as part of a boat show.
"We want to do something for Whalley as part of our new spirit of openness," said Mr Counsell
