A PARISH council chairman has been suspended from his job as a postman after bosses launched an inquiry into mail delivery.
Kevin Robinson stunned colleagues on Cliviger parish council when he told them at a meeting he had been suspended from duty.
Mr Robinson, who works in the village and has been chairman of the parish council for a year, confirmed: "That is all I told them. I cannot comment on what goes on between me and the Post Office. I shall be continuing with my work on the parish council.''
Mr Robinson told a meeting of the parish council about it on Friday.
Long serving parish clerk Mrs Alice Harris said: "He just told us that he wanted us to know that he had been suspended from work on full pay.
"We didn't ask him what it was about. He is a very good village postman.''
A Royal Mail spokesman confirmed that a delivery postman from the Burnley office had been suspended pending an inquiry concerning mail delivery procedures.
The spokesman said: "I understand we are looking into one particular incident and the postman has been suspended as a precautionary measure.''
