LONG-TERM unemployment figures for East Lancashire showed an alarming rise.
Figures for the quarter to January 1993 showed an eight per cent rise in those out of work for a year or more. The Ribble Valley area was the worst hit, with the long-term total rising by 10.9 per cent.
County council leader Louise Ellman accused the Government of causing "untold harm and misery."
