ARMY weapons experts were called to Blackburn after a stash of bullets and shells was found near a lake at Corporation Park.
The area was cordoned off after the cache was discovered by a YTS trainee working on leaking banks around the lake. Blackburn Council's leisure chief Eddie Runswick said: "We are investigating the possibility that the site could have been used to dump ammunition after the First World War."
