ATHERTON folk hope they've heard the last of things that go bump in the night.
After nine crashes in the space of seven weeks at the High Street/Alder Street junction locals sent a 100 name petition calling for a sign and renewed road markings.
Angry local Stephen Donoghue said:"The lines had faded at the junction and on dark nights people who didn't know the area were driving out straight into High Street traffic.
"People's homes and my van have been hit and cars have ended-up on the footpaths. They could have struck innocent pedestrians."
On Tuesday afternoon workmen arrived to repaint the double broken white lines and erect traffic warning signs.
"I'm relieved they've done this, but we'd like a "Stop" sign putting there as well," said Mr Donohue.
