I have read your articles on the furore surrounding the possible purchase of a 14 acre field in Heysham by the National Trust at rock bottom cost, with the compromise that the local authority may agree that the current owners build 8 houses in one obscure corner of the field. It seems to me that if this were to be put in perspective there would be no fuss.
For too long beautiful Heysham Village has been unsupported with regeneration funding. If the National Trust plan to develop the coastal walk right up through the golf links and onto the field so that people could walk, picnic and take their dogs in a well-maintained piece of land planted with various species of coastal-hardy shrubs, and graze animals, with the walkway leading right up to the village - this would be a heaven-sent opportunity for business in the village. Never mind asking the folk who overlook the field - their response is predictable. Think about those in Heysham who might benefit from access to a wide area of open recreational land, well taken care of by the Trust, and the businesses who would welcome year-round visitors bringing real prosperity to Heysham. For once Heysham would benefit from local and national publicity about the development of the whole of the coastline.
Go for it Heysham!
