Waterhead 40 Pilkington Recs 12 THE scoreline was a cruel reflection of the effort Recs put into this game.
They trailed only 12-6 against the table-toppers at the break.
But tries in 15 minutes after the interval put paid to their hopes.
On a heavy pitch against bigger opposition, Recs battled gamely, with young props Graham Cranney and Mike Dennett getting through a great deal of work.
Recs' first-half try came courtesy of leading scorer Jason Ledger, while stand-off Anthony Marsh added a penalty goal.
Ten minutes into the second half Recs were still in contention, with hooker Peter Cahalin getting through his usual high ratio of tackles.
However, they lost two players to the sinbin and the Oldham side cashed in with four tries.
However, Recs kept plugging away and good work from Jamie Hill and Anthony Marsh preceded a consolation try for skipper Shaun Dolan. Marsh kicked his second goal.
For Recs, hard-working Graham Cranney took the JB Driveways man of the match award.
