THE vast majority of East Lancashire firms have still got their heads in the sand over European Monetary Union, a shock survey has revealed.
With just 10 months to go before the introduction of a single European currency, more than two thirds of manufacturing companies in the region have done nothing to prepare for it.
The latest North West Chambers of Commerce survey, which dozens of East Lancashire firms contribute to, found that despite their lack of action most firms believe the EMU will have a significant impact on their business.
"Even with the United Kingdom staying out it is quite worrying that so few companies have not yet started preparing for the single currency," said Sam Jones of the Royal Bank of Scotland which sponsored the survey.
"They need to think hard about how they might be affected and start taking the necessary action to be ready."
