LOCAL people have helped plan a new community garden in the Stoneyholme area of Burnley.
Work has started on land next to Burleigh Street and Gordon Street to provide the new open space which will include a small grassed area, paths, trees, shrubs and seats.
Play equipment for young children is also being included and semi-mature trees are being planted as part of the Forest of Burnley Millennium project.
Ward councillor Rafique Malik said: "An important part of this garden is the involvement of local people and children in the design and construction of the community garden which will help to promote a feeling of ownership within the local community.''
Burnley's Challenge Fund has applied for money from North West Arts Board to allow artists to work with the local community in designing a pergola, fencing and gates.
