Haydock 30 Simms Cross 12 THE Yickers collected two valuable points to improve their standing in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
But Simms Cross took the lead after five minutes with a penalty goal. Ireland brought Haydock level with another two-pointer.
And Haydock surged into the lead when good passing ended with Lowe putting Abbott over. Haydock were now playing some good rugby with Lowe and Kelsey prominent.
Darting runs from acting half-back Green gained good ground for the Yickers to set up a move which saw Fearnley touch down.
Another Ireland penalty saw Haydock firmly in the driving seat at 12-2. And they stretched their lead further with a try from Ford.
The Widnes side's sole reply came from a penalty just before the break.
After the break Simms Cross came out strongly, but good defence by Bloor, Tither and Lowe restricted them to a penalty.
Any thoughts of a Simmies comeback were dismissed when Kelsey made a break, transferred the ball to Lowe who sent Frodsham over for a try converted by Ireland, who added a penalty minutes later.
The Widnes side were guilty of being too aggressive and they were punished when one of their players was dismissed.
But they still had enough skill to produce a converted try.
However, Haydock had the final word when another good break by Lowe produced a try for the supporting Tither.
Best for Haydock were Lowe, Green, Bloor, Kelsey and O'Garra.
