LANCASHIRE Hawks will be going for a "double" number of points this weekend - even though they only have one scheduled fixture.
That strange situation comes about because the ice-hockey play-off clash with Cardiff Rage at the Arena on Sunday (face off 6pm) will be worth four points instead of two.
Rage, something of an unknown quantity, share their home ice time with crack parent team Cardiff Devils and they can't find space in a fixture jam to tackle Hawks down in Wales.
Therefore it has been decided to make Sunday's clash count for two games.
It's a massive incentive for the luckless Hawks who still harbour hopes of making an impression in the play-offs despite missing out in the opener against Telford on Tuesday.
Hawks are still sweating on the fitness of Jeff Daniels, Neil Abel and Colin Downie, although player-coach Jim Pennycook is confident of a return after he injured his shoulder last Saturday against Murrayfield Royals.
Match preview in tomorrow' Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
