THE GOVERNMENT is heading for a revved-up rural row over windfarms, according to a report today.
For, says the Council for the Protection of Rural England, meeting its targets for increasing use of renewable energy would mean a big boost in wind turbine farm projects which already attract strong protests.
Yet, for lots of good reasons, the government must press on with the quest for more "clean" energy.
But the visual impact of "green" wind-generated power on the countryside whips up lots of anger as well.
Striking an acceptable balance is something that the government could find hard to achieve.
But it might make more headway if strict controls were brought in to reduce the impact of windfarms on the landscape and by, maybe, favouring the projects which would site them offshore.
