RESIDENTS in Padiham were cheering after a planned nightclub was refused a liquor licence.
They turned out in force for the all-day hearing at Reedley magistrates to decide on the licence application for Le Grand Nightclub, Station Road.
Businessman John Wadsworth made the application even though an entertainments licence on the same premises was rejected by Burnley councillors in November.
At the hearing his barrister Barrie Searle, QC, said his clients would do everything to ensure the residents and club would live in harmony, including providing noise insulation, an over 25s restriction, a strict dress code and specially trained doormen.
Residents feared Le Grand would return to the troubled nightspot it was before the previous management closed it down.
The application, for a special justices' on-licence, special hours certificate and permit for two games machines with prizes was refused.
