FIRE ripped through the games room of a working men's club last night causing thousands of pounds damage.
The blaze started in a waste bin at the Pioneer WMC in Tanpits Lane, Church, at around 6.30pm, before the club was due to open.
"When we got there, smoke was billowing out of the building," said leading firefighter George Mullaney: "We were there for around two-and-a-half hours and the fire caused severe damage to the games room, smoke damage to the concert room and the upper floor."
Firefighters were later able to watch video footage of the start of the fire before internal security cameras melted.
The fire may have been started by a discarded cigarette and is not being treated as suspicious.
