DOG wardens revealed that more than 1,000 healthy dogs were being destroyed every year in Blackburn and Darwen.
The wardens told councillors that nearly 2,600 dogs had been picked up as strays during the last year, and that 1,300 had been taken to the police station because their owners could not be found. Coun Paul Browne said: "This just proves to me that dog owners just don't care about dogs."
