SOCCER legend Sir Tom Finney is well on track for his latest honour - he's set to have a road named after him.
The former North End great is delighted by plans for a touching tribute on part of Deepdale Road which would be there for years to come.
Following the 75-year-old's knighthood it was felt the town hall should do something and they came up with the idea of "Sir Tom Finney Way".
The section of road concerned runs from Watling Street Road to Moor Park Avenue, past Deepdale, Preston, where Sir Tom had so many successful years.
Sir Tom said: "I can't believe it, it's all coming at once. But I'm very pleased, this would be a real honour.
"That's the location where it all happened for me and it would be nice for some of the memories to live on forever."
The plans will go ahead if three businesses on the stretch of road agree - one of those is Preston North End who will welcome the idea with open arms.
One person who has pushed hard for the name change is Deepdale councillor Terry Cartwright.
He said: "Sir Tom has done so many good things for the town. He never stops with his charity work.
"This would be tremendous. It would be very apt for the road leading down to the stadium and the new football museum to be named after him."
A final discussion is expected by Preston council after discussions with the businesses concerned.
