LAST week, in our small shop, we accepted a cheque which was signed in front of us and guaranteed by a switchcard.
This cheque has not been honoured by the bank as the cheque book and card had been stolen (it may be honoured at a later date).
Most people are of the understanding that, as the name suggests, a guarantee card guarantees the cheque, but this is obviously not always the case.
I bring this to the attention of your readers to save others the inconvenience and expense this has cost us.
EILEEN HELLIWELL, Bridge Street, Darwen.
