I WAS sad and upset to read (LET, April 29) that Scottish and Newcastle are to phase out the name of Matthew Brown, the former Blackburn brewer.
Before the S and N takeover, the company was very much a family-orientated business.
My parents and relatives were employed there for about 100 years between them; my father alone working there for nearly 30 years.
I was out of the country when the brewery was demolished and returned to find houses built in its place. I was upset to say the least.
Now, they are saying: "Cheers - it's been nice having your name around."
Because of this, 60 people lose their jobs. Anything for a quick buck.
