FURIOUS Great Britain and Saints hooker Keiron Cunningham has emphatically denied he is about to join Wigan - or any other club!

Speculation was fuelled at Wembley on Saturday, when rumour was rife that the Warriors were set to move in with a John Clarke-plus-cash-deal.

"I know nothing of any such move," said local lad Keiron, "and I am sick and tired of denying it. The whole affair is very upsetting because I don't want Saints' fans or the board to turn against me.

"Wigan had their chance of signing me as a youngster but declined, and it is my intention to devote my career to Saints, and I am working hard to recover from groin and hernia injuries which have sidelined me for weeks."

Keiron's views were echoed by his agent and elder brother Tommy who dismissed the matter as pure media gossip, while Saints' chief executive, David Howes adopted a similar stance.

"Keiron is a model professional who is contracted to Saints until the year 2000," said Mr. Howes. "We have no wish to lose him, and hope to see him back in the squad soon after injury."

Meanwhile Saints resume their Super League campiagn when they travel to Bradford Bulls on Sunday, kick-off 7.05pm. The Academy fixture kicks off at 5pm. Saints Travel Club is running coaches price £6.50 and leaving Knowsley Road at 4.30pm. Junior passengers will be admitted to the ground for £2.50.

Saints' new player of the month awards scheme resulted in Chris Joynt being the senior choice, Paul Wellens Alliance, and Gareth Price Academy.

The Alliance team will play Wigan at Knowsley Road on Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm.

Saints' Past Players Association will hold their 19th annual dinner in the cabaret lounge, Knowsley Road, on Friday, June 5, from 7.15pm. Saints' South African winger of the 1960s Len Killeen, who made a nostalgic return to Knowsley Road last month, has written from Port Elizabeth to express his gratitude for the welcome he received. In a letter to his hosts Jack and Doreen Gill Len commented: "Thank you a thousand times over for a memorable holiday. Not only was it an ambition fulfilled, but the functions organised for me exceeded my wildest dreams. Please convey my thanks to everyone involved, not forgetting Saints' supporters."

The Rugby League Collectors Federation will hold a free admission programme fair at Knowsley Road on Saturday, May 9, from 11am to 2pm.

Saints' director and former chairman Eric Ashton is making a steady recovery after undergoing knee surgery in St. Helens Hospital.
