Many of your readers will have been heartened by the BBC news headlines on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday, informing the nation that after a disappointing Easter of floods and storms, the May Day holiday weekend had seen huge crowds flocking to our seaside resorts up and down the country.
Had Mark Twain been able to accompany me around Morecambe over the weekend I am fairly certain about what he would have said, i.e. 'Reports of the death of the English seaside resort have been much exaggerated.'
