BLACKPOOL'S very own musical prodigy has won yet another accolade to add to his growing collection of awards.

For the second year running, Michael Davis has won the North West area Brass Band Association slow melody contest on his cornet.

Not content with just winning the competition, Michael scored an astonishing 98 points out of a possible 100.

Michael's mum, Beverley, said: "They reckon he coughed somewhere along the line!"

Along with the title and the chance to become the overall British champion, Michael also won a General Guarantee Bolton Scholarship of £200 to put towards a music tutor.

Despite being only 11 years old, he plays with Poulton-le-Fylde Brass Band, Montgomery High's brass band, Lancashire Students Jazz Orchestra and Lancashire Youth Training Brass Band.

He learned to play the ukelele at the age of four and appeared playing it on the first ever series of Barrymore.

It was at the tender age of six that Michael decided to learn to play the cornet and trumpet.

He has appeared on television more than 20 times and is still looking to win more competitions.

He said: "The competition was quite tough - some of the other players were pretty good.

"I played a piece called One Day, which has come out recently.

"My tutor ordered a few pieces and that's the one which worked out best.

"There's another competition in October - that's the British Open championship in which I was runner-up last year.

"I'll try my best to win it this time."
