Lancashire Lynx 12 York Wasps 25
LYNX's long unbeaten home run finally ended when an impressive York outfit deservedly took the spoils over a strangely subdued Lynx team.
This was Lynx's 13th home league fixture at Deepdale and it certainly proved unlucky as they probably turned in their worst performance at home for two seasons.
From the kick off York looked the more lively outfit and they took the lead in the sixth minute with a try from Lee Deakin in the corner, Craig Booth adding the conversion.
Lynx then began to show some form and in the 13th minute Carl Briscoe broke clear and he drew the full back before passing to Phil Jones to touch down from 40 metres.
Both defences were on top, but York's ability to unload passes from the tackle were causing Lynx's defence major problems. York edged further ahead with a drop goal from David Brook in the 28th minutes. Lynx continued to battle away and they took the lead in the 37th minute with a try from Chris Kelly who won the race to a Dave Murray kick through, Phil Jones adding the conversion to give Lynx a 10-7 half time lead.
York were ahead again two minutes into the second half when poor defence by Lynx allowed Lee Deakin to burrow his way over the line. Five minutes later Lynx edged ahead with a Phil Jones penalty after York had been penalised for a high tackle.
Just when it seemed that a tense finish was in prospect three tries in six minutes swung the game York's way. The first of these was a controversial effort by Alex Godfrey when Lynx's defence stopped for a knock on by York.
Their other tries coming from Lee Deakin who completed his hat trick and David Brooks with Craig Booth adding a conversion. Man of the match for Lynx was John Dunn.
