RIBBLESDALE Wanderers professional Shahid Nawaz scored a spectacular century to take his team through to the second round of the Vaux Ramsbottom Cup.

Nawaz was 102 not out in his side's 159-3 after they restricted Blackburn Northern to 156-8.

Barnoldswick fell at the first hurdle after struggling to 142-9. Padiham knocked off the runs with five wickets down.

Andrew Jaggers captured five wickets for Earby as Edenfield were dismissed for 104. The Applegarth side reached victory with four wickets down. Read struggled to just 77 and Mark Fallon was 57 not out as Whalley secured a 10 wicket victory.

Oswaldtwistle could reach just 140 as Mick Dewhurst took five wickets for nine runs. Clitheroe secured a seven wicket win with Jonathan Fielding 61 not out. Great Harwood professional Charles Dagnall bowled only 4.4 overs in the match against Baxenden before being forced to withdraw from the attack after being warned for running down the wicket.

Peter Usher scored 63 for Baxenden as they set a target of 148-8. Great Harwood got off to a flying start when Daniel Cheesbrough smashed 39 off 16 balls, but then the innings went into the doldrums and it took a late flourish from Paul Clifford who scored 28 off 13 balls including three sixes to reach victory.

Cherry Tree rattled up a total of 217-8 with Gary Bolton 66 and David Hayes 62. Settle reached 178-7 in reply, professional Surrendra Bhave hitting 100.
