LANCASHIRE have called in Shane Warne's spin doctor to continue the development of rookie leg spinner Chris Schofield.

Terry Jenner, a former Aussie Test leggie himself, and Warne's personal coach, is in England primarily to work with Surrey's Ian Salisbury.

But Jenner came up to Manchester this week for a look at Schofield, the Littleborough youngster who is tipped for big things by Lancashire and England.

Following a successful winter with England Under 19s, Schofield has made an encouraging start to the season, taking three wickets in Lancashire's only second team championship game so far.

"I've seen him bowl this season and I've been terrifically encouraged," said the England coach David Lloyd.

But with the second team involved in their own one-day competition, the Aon Risk Trophy, this week, he has been practising in the nets.

Peter Sleep, Lancashire's second team captain, met up with Jenner at a "leg spin convention" at Lord's earlier this week and invited his fellow Aussie up to Old Trafford.

Lancashire made a good start today, reducing Kent to 73-5 from 30 overs, Peter Martin taking two wickets.
