BURY are hoping to secure the services of Bryan Small for next season's tilt at Division One.
Manager Stan Ternent and chairman Terry Robinson will meet with the player after the Shakers' end-of-season holiday to Majorca, which departs tomorrow.
The left back, who joined the club in March following a loan spell from Bolton, is the only Bury star out of contract.
Ternent has assured fans he will try to hammer out a deal for the player following his impressive short spell at Gigg Lane.
"I will certainly try to keep Bryan. It all depends what he wants," said the Bury boss.
"All the other players who were due to be out of contract have been sorted out now. I left Bryan to the end of the season because I wasn't sure where we would be.
"I will sort it out if I can."
And the Bury manager hinted there could be more signings in the close season to bolster the playing staff at the club.
Following the Bosman ruling, hundreds of top players will become available in the summer on free transfers.
"I have got one or two players in mind but it will come down to the chairman," he said.
Small proved to be a lucky mascot for the Shakers who enjoyed an upturn in fortunes on his arrival. Speaking after Sunday's 1-0 win at QPR in the final game of the season, which secured Bury's place in Division One for next season, the 26-year-old said he definitely wanted to stick around.
"I would like to stay at Bury if it is alright. Nothing has been discussed yet, but the terms will have to be right," he said.
Like his teammates, Small was thrilled with Sunday's win, which lifted Bury to a 17th place finish in the table.
"It was a great result and we fully deserved it," he said.
"I think we were the better side. We didn't have our minds on the draw - we wanted to win."
A delighted Bury chairman Terry Robinson echoed Small's words.
"It wasn't pretty but we came to London and did what we had to do. Everybody played their hearts out," he said.
And on staying up, he added: "I am happy for our management team. They have worked hard. We haven't got the most of resources so this is a fantastic achievement."
Bury's goal hero was sweeper Gordon Armstrong who headed home the 22nd minute winner.
