A COUNCIL report has been issued which recommends that the Bubbles Leisure Complex be promoted as a potential development site. But the management company that operates Bubbles and the Dome have questioned some of its details. Brian Bromiley of Bubbles Leisure Group Ltd said: "It says last season attendances had fallen to under 55,000 but I can confirm we had more than 63,000 in the pool, 59,000 in the Dome and 15,000 in the Waterfront Bar. It adds the contract payment is £268,000 but fails to mention the £79,375 we pay back in rates."

In the report it is admitted that "there would likely be a public outcry" if Morecambe's only public pool is closed but claims the district as a whole had plenty of swimming facilities.

There has been speculation about the site for sometime, with one local consortium claiming to have the financial backing for a £14 million apartment and leisure complex. The report, to be discussed on Monday, also recommends that market research be carried out to determine its future use.
