Cllr Henig's letter of last week once again tries to fudge the issue of Crinkley Bottom. The Independent position has never changed - based on the information given to us by officers prior to opening Crinkley Bottom we were happy to vote for the project. However, it now seems that some of the information may have been misleading. We would like our questions answered. Independents voted against taking legal action against Noel Edmonds and Unique warning that the risk of financial loss to the tax payer was too great. Unfortunately for the local tax payer Cllr Henig and the political groups paid no attention. Cllr Henig states that he knew after approximately seven months that the side letter had not been signed, checked the paper trail and realised that councillors had not been told. Surprisingly there is no documentation to show that he then passed that knowledge onto other councillors. Cllr Henig's attempts to invent a slur on the District Auditor is ridiculous. The Independents' request for an independent public inquiry into all aspects of Crinkley Bottom. That is what the public want and deserve. As Cllr Henig knows very well, the District Auditor's powers of inquiry are limited by statute. The Independent group want a wide-ranging inquiry now. Cllr Henig clearly doesn't.
