PARENTS in Blackburn and Darwen have been offered a tasty treat - school meal prices are being pegged for the coming year.
Blackburn with Darwen Council announced the price freeze as schools outside the borough saw a three per cent rise in the cost of dinners.
The council is also holding school milk for infants at current prices.
Councillor Bill Taylor, chairman of the council's education and training committee, said: "We are keen to ensure that all children in the borough have the opportunity to enjoy a school meal which is both fairly priced and nutritionally balanced."
The Catering Services Division, under new manager Kath Baron, has already taken over responsibility for providing school meals following a smooth transfer from the county council. Coun Taylor added: "Improving the quality of school meals is an important priority for this authority." Primary school meals cost £1.30, and secondary school meals are £1.60.
