IT'S David Harrison's long, silver beard which has made him a well-known character throughout South Ribble.
But it's not just his beard that is silver - for Leyland's most popular street sweeper has been awarded the Silver Broom by the Tidy Britain Group, in recognition of his battle against the town's litterbugs.
David, from Clayton-le-Woods, was nominated for the prestigious award by an anonymous member of the public who felt he deserved a reward for seven years hard slog, rain or shine.
David Lindley, head of operational services at South Ribble Council, said: "David has worked with us for a long time and, like all the street cleaners, is very professional.
"He also puts a lot of pride into his work, which is obvious when you walk down the streets where he has been working.
"It is especially pleasing that a member of the public has recognised the quality of the service." David said: "To me, it's just a job.
"It was an honour to collect the award and I am very grateful to the person who nominated me, whoever they are."
A spokesman for the Tidy Britain Group commented: "We are always looking to reward people who work hard to reduce the amount of rubbish which litters out streets."
