MEMBERS of Bury Church Urban Fund are celebrating the success of an ambitious project designed to improve quality of life for people in the Chesham Fold area.
A total of £45,000 has been spent on community initiatives there. Half the cash came from the fund, the other half from personal donations, industrialists and individual churches.
Bury Council provided a property on the Chesham Fold Estate free of charge for use as a base for the project.
Bury Church Urban Fund industrial committee chairman Coun Bill Johnson said: "It was difficult to raise money for the project but in the end it was a tremendous success.
"Chesham Fold required investment to make people aware of what they could do themselves to brighten up their lives. It brought a little light where there had been darkness.
"I am very proud of the project which has helped community spirit. It showed people that there is great potential for them to improve their own well-being."
One successful element in the project was to show people how to better handle their finances.
