Kirkholt 24 Bold Miners 31 THE Miners had to win this final league game to play off for promotion but Kirkholt had to win to become Champions so the scene was set for a great game.
Kirkholt took an 8-0 lead early on with a fine try and two goals. Bold replied when Dave Scott took a short pass from Wayne Kenyon to crash over. Dave Davies levelled the scores when he scored a fine try wide out. Darren Anders converted from the touchline . Wayne Kenyon added a drop goal to widen the lead to 11-8 at half time. Defences were on top for the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Ste Prole made a great break running 50 yards only to be tackled deep in Kirkholt's half. Good passing led to Mark Rigby scoring under the posts with Anders adding the goal. Darren Anders added a penalty goal, a try and conversion to widen the lead to 25-8 and Bold looked home and dry, but Kirkholt fought back well scoring three tries in quick succession to make the score 25-24 in Bolds favour with five minutes remaining.
Lee Bednarzic set up the play for a great passing movement ending with Anders sending Mark Saunders in the corner for the match winning try. Anders kicked the goal from the touchline to seal the game for Bold.
Lee Bednarzic took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award with great performances from Nick Joseph, Wayne Kenyon and Mark Rigby in a brilliant team performance.
