A RAIDER put gun to the head of a postmaster in a raid last weekend.

The gunman demanded to be let into the Sandy Lane Post Office and, minutes later, he and an accomplice raided the till before fleeing with an unspecified amount of cash.

The drama happened last Saturday morning (May 2) when the postmaster was grabbed as he prepared to open the premises.

As one of the thugs held him, the other put the gun against his head and demanded entrance to the post office.

After stealing the cash, the raiders were seen to make off towards Lowther Road where they escaped in a dirty white MG Metro or Fiesta-type car which was driven towards the Agecroft area.

Officers are anxious to talk to anyone who witnessed the raid or who may have seen the men leave after the robbery.

At the same time, anyone who saw the two men in the vicinity prior to the raid is asked to come forward.

The thug with the handgun was in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, stocky build and unshaven.

He was wearing a white baseball cap, a dark jacket and dark jeans.

His accomplice is described as being of the same age, between 5ft 10-6ft in height, slim to medium build and wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone who can assist officers should contact Detective Constable Wade Harreld, in confidence, at Whitefield CID on 856 8247.

Alternatively, they can ring Bury police crime management unit on 856 8157 or freephone CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. They need not give a name and could qualify for a cash reward.
