TYLDESLEY Fred Longworth High School has won a £10,000 injection by scooping a top health challenge award double.
Staff and pupils collected the best Education Award of £5,000 in the 1998 North West Health Challenge Awards and a further £5,000 as overall Health Challenge Award champions.
The school's wide reaching health education programme, which embraces not only students, but their families and local community, impressed the judges.
Initiatives are often developed in response to student concerns about issues such as alcohol, a topic which was addressed through a health promotion drama evening to encourage more open discussion among families.
The Health Challenge Awards is a regionwide competition staged by the NHS Executive North West to reward schools, workplaces and community groups which show innovation in improving health.
A total of £30,000 is awarded to winning organisations.
