Darwen 100 Lancaster 123-4 LANCASTER have moved to second in the table after their 23 runs victory over Darwen at Birch Hall.
Batting first Lancaster struggled to 123 for 4 off their allotted 50 overs.
South African professional, Andrew Lawson carried his bat for 54. He was ably supported by Danny Welbourne with 42, and some lusty hitting at the end from wicket-keeper, Brendon Hetherington undefeated with 14.
Darwen opening bowler, Andrew Mercer was the pick of the attack, taking 2 for 13 off 10 overs.
In reply apart from Gareth Cordingley with 50 and opener Gary Jackson with 19, Darren's batsmen struggled against some impressive Lancaster bowling.
Richard Whitaker, a 19-year-old the St Martin's College student making his first-team debut, was superb in his 19.4 overs. His figures were seven maidens and five wickets for just 19 runs. Phil Dennison took the other five wickets for 34 runs. Leyland DAF 173-7 Morecambe 197-8
Morecambe had a winning draw at Sandy Lane against Leyland DAF.
Batting first they made 197 for 8, with professional Steven Pope top scoring with 96. His innings lasted 150 minutes and included 10 fours.
John Eccles weighed in with 48, whilst Duncan Catterall took 4 for 59.
Morecambe looked to be heading for victory until DAF's Alan Murray and Charlie Williams featured in an unbroken eighth wicket partnership of 43. Murray finished on 31, Williams 24.
This Saturday sees a break in the league programme for the First Round of the Vaux Samson Cup. Lancaster entertain Kendal at Lune Road, Morecambe play Leyland at Woodhill Lane.
