DANISH striker Per Pedersen is on his way back to Blackburn Rovers this summer with German club Borussia Moenchengladbach deciding not to pursue their interest in him.

Pedersen, who has been on loan to the Bundesliga side since last October, will report back with the rest of Rovers' staff early in July - unless another club moves for him before then.

Although he did not play in all their matches, he has helped BMg to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.

They just survived on goal difference after winning their final match but are not taking up an option to buy the striker.

Speaking from Germany, where he was about to embark on a post-season series of fund-raising friendlies with BMg, Pedersen was honest enough to admit his prospects of making an impact at Ewood next season did not look good.

In fact, it could well be tougher for him than before he left on extended loan.

And he has also suffered a blow at international level, revealing that he would not be in the Danish squad to go to France for next month's World Cup. "I must return to Blackburn and do my best," he said. "I am just an employee of the club and it is up to Roy what happens next.

"But when I left to go to Germany I was fourth choice striker and, if the club sign players this summer, my situation could be even more difficult.

"I am sure Roy will tell me what my chances are and we will see what happens. I have three years on my contract and I am ready to do my duty."

Pedersen still has his house in the area and will have a few weeks break once he has finished with BMg.

"We are playing 11 friendly games now. It is what happens here because the clubs have to make some money," added the Dane, who was signed to help Rovers during the successful battle against relegation last year.

Ewood boss Roy Hodgson admitted that Pedersen could find himself in a similar situation to other players he has already hinted could be leaving this summer. Anders Andersson and Tore Pedersen have been unable to claim first team places and Patrick Valery has not been a regular.

If Hodgson is as successful as he hopes to be in the transfer market during the close season some players will see themselves pushed further down the ladder with their chances of featuring in the Premiership even more remote.
