POLICE in Colne are searching for a man who is approaching young children in local parks and play areas asking them to help search for his missing dog.

The alert follows several similar incidents in the town over the last two months.

In the latest incident, on Wednesday afternoon, the man approached two boys and a girl at the Byron Road play area and asked them to help find his missing 'little black dog.'

He tried to separate the youngsters by asking the girl to go with him, but she refused and later told her parents who reported the incident to police.

Said investigating officer Det Constable Dave France: "Very similar approaches have been made to children in recent weeks and we are anxious for children and parents to be aware of the danger and to report anything to us immediately."

The man is said to be aged between 30-40 years old and with a moustache.

Anyone with information should call Colne police on 01282 863161.
