I READ with interest the views of three of the town's councillors, defending the new traffic management scheme in Duckworth Street, Darwen. (Letters, May 13).
Have they really been to Duckworth Street?
They mention "two lanes of fast-moving traffic" and "reducing the killing and maiming of pedestrians."
Is this the M25 they are talking about, or the main street in Darwen?
This kind of sensationalism reeks once more of petty officialdom defending the indefensible with self-righteous clap-trap, in pretence of serving the public interest.
The fact remains their scheme is ill-conceived and will cause great distress to pedestrians and motorists alike. And, in the long run, it will cause horrendous problems for our emergency services.
If the councillors really have visited Duckworth Street, it was from another planet.
