FURTHER to my comments (Letters, April 21) concerning Bishop Alan Chesters' seeking an end to arms manufacture and suggesting production of civil goods in their place, the Bible says: "Blessed be the peacemakers," and I am sure the bishop is one.
But, in Revelations, it also says there will be wars and rumours of wars in the end times.
Therefore, do we defend our country and keep armed forces ready to fight a just war against evil or unilaterally disarm?
I say, unless there is multi-lateral disarmament, this country must be armed and seek peaceful means of ending wars using the United Nations peace-keeping forces.
This means supplying them with the weapons to keep the peace, which therefore, requires an arms industry.
The sale of arms to non-democratic countries must be banned, as I believe the Labour Party is currently aiming for.
