INTERNATIONAL friends of Bury made a flying visit to town this week.

A 17-strong party from Notre Dame d'Oe near Tours in France, led by their Mayor Jean-Lut Galliot, were received in council chambers by Bury Mayor, Coun Roy Walker.

The lightning weekend visit was the first time a party from the French town has visited Bury

Bury's link with Notre Dame d'Oe was established 12 years ago by Mr George Purcell, head of Radcliffe County Junior School, who has been a part-time resident in the small town.

Since then, parties from Bury have been regular callers en route to another twin town, Angouleme.

Mr Mike Pinder, a member of Bury's Twinning Association, said: "The town has always provided an ideal stop to break-up the journey to Angouleme.

"The warmth of the welcome offered at the Notre Dame d'Oe Town Hall has always been quite amazing.

"This was the first time a party from Notre Dame d'Oe has visited Bury, but it has laid a firm foundation for future visits. During their stay, they visited the sights of the town."
