TEN East Lancashire pubs have been sold in a £15 million-plus deal.

Pubmaster, one of the country's biggest pub operators, has bought 54 pubs from the Nelson-based Devonshire Pub Company.

The pubs sold include the Bridge Inn and the Crown in Accrington; O'Dwyers in Haslingden and Bacup; Coal Clough House, Gannow Wharf and Kettledrum at Burnley; the Masons Arms, Crawshawbooth; the Alma in Padiham and the Rhoden in Oswaldtwistle.

Devonshire's managing director Andrew McLean said: "It is a good deal for our tenants and our shareholders.

"Pubmaster will maintain the selection of brands available to the licensees and they will be joining a quality estate."

Pubmaster, based at Hartlepool, now has more than 1,460 pubs across the country.

Chief executive John Sands said: "We have bought an excellent package of public houses which will enhance our estate.

"These pubs have received significant investment over the past three years and we shall continue with this policy."
