IF England meet arch rivals Germany in the World Cup final, regulars from a Pendle pub will be hoping the result of their "grudge" footy match is the sign of things to come.
The team from the Derby Arms in Colne were all set to take on the mighty force of visiting German rock band Silky Ass Surface at the Holt House Playing Fields, Colne.
The local side were just warming up for the match when they received a phone call to say the German crew were a little the worse for wear after they celebrated appearing at the Midas Club, Earby, with a very late night!
Landlord at the Derby and team manager Mike Glynn said: "It was like they admitted defeat before the match even got underway or maybe they just decided to celebrate early, either way it is us who are celebrating now because as far as we are concerned we are the winners!"
The match was organised by Adrian Melling, owner of Planet Records shop in Newmarket Street, Colne, after he fixed up for the German band to play concerts in East Lancashire.
Mike added: "Unfortunately the band were going back to Germany after the weekend so we can't re-schedule the game, but if England get to the final we have nothing to fear if Germany are the opponents!"
