I HAVE a certain amount of sympathy for Duncan McVee (Letters, May 20). It must be difficult for him to support so-called New Labour, as its actions seem to be a long way from what he believes.
However, I cannot let him get away with trying to give the impression that all was sweetness and light.
Another 100,000 NHS patients treated? Is he not aware that, far from Labour reducing waiting lists by 100,000, they have, in fact, increased by more than 130,000, and we are now being told that it may be years before the promised reduction comes into effect?
Three of Labour's much-vaunted five pledges have gone down the drain, and one is forcibly reminded of a statement made by Labour that a pledge is not a promise.
Deary me - how things change!
