AN ANGRY trader is calling for action after a large lump of concrete was thrown through the roof of his shop.
Giles Barlow was shocked when he discovered a gaping hole in the corrugated plastic roof of Barlow's Aquatic Trading on Saturday afternoon.
He says the area around Scaitcliffe Street, Accrington, has been plagued with problems since a new access route for cycles leading to the railway was created.
"I was in the main section of my shop when I heard a loud bang in the back room.
"The stone had been thrown from the railway siding above," said Mr Barlow.
Luckily the concrete landed in a fish tank.
"If somebody had been in the room they could have been seriously hurt."
The businessman wants Hyndburn Council to consider the security implications of creating easier access from Scaitcliffe Street to the nearby railway bridge and sidings.
He added: "A lot of people have been complaining about the new cycle lane.
"Before, it was cut off by a wall and bushes. I know of at least one business that has been broken into since it was opened up and I am now also counting the cost."
